Storing and General Information
-
Bags are designed to help divert or mitigate the incursion of water, but may not be the right solution in all cases.
-
Bags can be stored indefinitely if kept in packaging provided, elevated and not exposed to water.
-
Bags are activated when exposed to fresh water. They cannot be exposed to salt water, as this will cause the bag to desorb water.
-
Door bags fully expand in about 2-3 minutes. Garage door bags expand in about 5-6 minutes. It will take about 30-45 minutes to completely deploy all the bags.
-
Door bags expand to about a height of 4” and weigh about 35 lbs., absorbing about 4.2 gallons of water. Garage door bags expand to a diameter of about 6” and weigh 75 lbs., absorbing about 8.8 gallons of water.
-
If you expect water to appear suddenly, then it is best to pre-soak bags and deploy. They can be left in place unexpanded and will expand as they are exposed to fresh water.
Bag Preparation and Activation
-
Remove bags from protective plastic and ensure that internal absorbent powder is dispersed throughout the bag by shaking from side to side.
-
To pre-activate your bags, place in fresh water as shown. Avoid folds and crimps.
Protecting a Garage Door/Directing Water Flow
-
Properly positioned, one garage door bag can provide a barrier against water and high winds across the bottom of the average (98”) single car garage. Or two garage door bags can be used end-to-end for a two-car garage. The garage door bag(s) can also be used to direct water flow from over-filled washing machines, defective sump pumps, etc.
Protecting an Exterior Door
-
Properly positioned, two door bags can provide a barrier against water and high winds across the bottom of any ground level door.
Other Information When Using the Bags
-
Bags can be left in place outdoors and will shrink as exposed to air, and expand as exposed to water. They can last for several months under these conditions, and continue to function as designed.
-
You will notice a “slimy” feel when using the bags. This is normal and not dangerous, other than as a slip hazard.
Disposing of the Bags
-
When no longer needed, keep expanded bags in a dry well ventilated area. They will desorb the water in several weeks to several months, depending on the temperature and humidity.
-
When completely dry, they can be re-activated but will not expand to the same degree as when new. It is recommended that you dispose of the bags and purchase replacements for best results.
-
When dry, the bags can be safely thrown in the trash and are non-toxic and environmentally friendly.
Safety Information
-
Products are for use by adults only.
-
Do not cut open bag to expose absorbent. If absorbent is exposed and spilled on surfaces, sweep into a disposable container and dispose in trash. Though the absorbent is not considered hazardous, it can irritate the skin and mucosal surfaces. Wash irritated skin with soap and water. For contact with the eye, flush for 15 minutes with water. If irritation continues or absorbent is ingested, seek medical attention. Refer to Resources section of website for safety data sheets.
-
As surfaces around expanded bags can be slippery, exercise caution to prevent slips.
